Learning at Forres

The Forres Curriculum

 

The curriculum at Forres is carefully chosen to enable children to make progress over time. Our intent is to ensure that our children develop the skills they need to become lifelong learners whilst also progressively building on their knowledge over time. Where possible we make links between subjects; enabling children to deepen their understanding. When subjects do not have an obvious link then we do not attempt to make these and the subject area will be taught discretely.

 

For English we follow CLPE planning to create a curriculum based on high-quality texts which fosters reading and writing for pleasure whilst raising achievement in literacy. In Maths we follow White Rose which has been designed to instil a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts using a full range of fun, inspiring classroom activities.

 

For the Foundation Subjects (History, Geography and Science) we have used the National Curriculum to develop our own bespoke curriculum with a focus on understanding the needs of our children.

 

In the other foundation subjects we have utilised a range of pre-written curriculum programmes from accredited providers including Charanga for Music, Kapow for D+T and Art, IPep for PE, Jigsaw for PSHE and RE and Minimus for Latin.

 

From September 2024 we have single year groups in all but Years 3 and 4, which remain mixed. Therefore Years 3 and 4 have an adapted, mixed-age curriculum on a cycle of Year A and Year B. The Year A cycle will be taught in the academic year 2024-2025.
