Kwik Cricket Tournament

A group of eight Year 5's and 6's took part in a Kwik Cricket Tournament at John Warner School on 14th June against five other schools in the area. The children got to play in competitive cricket matches using the Kwik Cricket format. All children had the opportunity to bat, bowl and field, which tied in nicely to what we are learning in PE currently.

Forres' first game was against Cranbourne, and after a slow start, gradually grew in confidence and played some good cricket. Unfortunately, the first game ended in defeat, but beating St Augustine's in the second game meant we qualified for the 3rd/4th place final. In a close final we eventually won against St Cross, meaning we finished in 3rd place.

It was very encouraging to see all the children compete with enthusiasm and was very rewarding to watch their confidence grow as the tournament went on.

Well done to all!

HDSSA Girls Football Tournament

A group of Year 5 girls represented Forres in a football tournament hosted at Sheredes Primary School on the 24th May. With most of the girls never playing a competitive football match before, they approached the tournament with much enthusiasm and improved as a team as the afternoon went on.

Most of the other teams consisted of Year 6's so the girls did a fantastic job competing against opponents a year older and were proud to finish in 6th place. Hopefully this has given the girls confidence to further their football development.

Well done girls!

Year 3/4 Inter-Primary Cup

On Friday 5th May, Forres Primary School took two football and two netball teams to compete in the Year 3/4 Inter-Primary Cup hosted at John Warner Sports Centre. Unfortunately, none of the teams progressed from the group stages on this occasion despite plenty of enthusiasm and determination by all players. The football 'A' Team were particularly unlucky not to progress, after only conceding one goal during the group stages.

With many of the children competing in a school sport competition for the first time we hope that this experience encourages and motivates them to get involved in more sport in and out of school.

HDSSA Netball Tournament

We took part in the HDSSA Netball Tournament held at Wormley Playing Fields on 27th March, competing in an 'A' Team and 'B' Team competition. With many of the children playing netball competitively for the first time it was good to see so much enthusiasm during the games. The 'A' Team showed good determination and spirit in all matches but unfortunately they failed to qualify from their group.

The 'B' Team, however, qualified in 3rd place in the group stages and made it through to the semi-finals where they beat Sheredes 2-1 in a close game. In the final the 'B' Team faced St Cross who had won the qualifying group, in a very even game, St Cross eventually won 1-0 and finished as 'B' Team Champions.

Both teams can be very proud of themselves after a fantastic performance, especially the 'B' Team finishing as runners-up!

HDSSA Year 5/6 Football 'A' Team 2016/17 Champions!!

The Year 5/6 Football Team competed in the annual HDSSA Football Tournament held at Cranbourne School on the 14th March. A fantastic afternoon saw the team remain unbeaten throughout the competition, making the final and finishing as champions!

Forres were drawn in a tough group where they finished in first place after victories against Roselands and St Augustines, along with draws against Broxbourne and St Cross. In the Quarter Finals they met Westfield who finished third in their group and after winning that they progressed to the Semi Finals where they met Broxbourne for the second time. After a very close game, Forres won by a narrow margin and moved on to face the hosts, Cranbourne, in the Final. Another close game followed but after some brilliant goals, Forres finished victorious and left the competition as worthy winners.

Well done to everyone involved, an excellent achievement for the school!

A10 Active Sports Hall Athletics Competiton

A team of 16 children from Years 3 and 4 represented the school in an indoor athletics competition based at the Laura Trott Leisure Centre on the 2nd March. The pupils competed in a number of different events including; obstacle races, relay races, javelin, speed bounce, long jump, triple jump, chest push and a balance competition.

All the competitors thoroughly enjoyed the morning and were enthusiastic and determined throughout.
