In Year 5, we have been using evidence from our text Narnia, in guided reading to draw the scene. They also answered a range of retrieval and inference questions. In English the children, identify features in a good example of a diary entry and then planned their own entry. The children have focused on including thoughts and feelings of the character in their diaries. In Maths, we have continued with our place value learning- developing the children’s understanding of comparing and ordering numbers. In Latin, the children learnt how to say hello and goodbye. In Geography, the children learnt about the different times zones throughout the world and looked. In PE, the children developed their back hand skills in tennis.

Year 5 have had a fantastic week! They have been incredibly focused in their learning. In guided reading, the children have answered a range of comprehension questions based on Lucy discovering the magical land of Narnia. In English, we started our new novel and were introduced to the main character Edward Tulane. The children created a role on the wall and used ambitious vocabulary to describe the personality of Edward. In Maths, we have continued to explore place value. The children got to grips with numbers up to one million- partitioning the numbers and writing the numbers in words. In PE, we developed our use of different shape and movements. In Geography, we recapped our knowledge of longitude and latitude.

Learning Focus
Confidence class have had a fantastic first week at school. The children have settled well, playing, exploring, and actively learning. We have been learning the routine and school's expectations. Yesterday, the children had their first lunch at school. What a great start to school life!
Year 1 have had a fantastic start to the year and have settled in brilliantly! In English, we explored In Our Hands by Lucy Farfort. We talked about the phrase "the dulling" and how it might make the characters feel, then wrote our own sentences. We also chose our favourite pages to recreate as a class – they’re looking amazing! In Maths, we've been working on Place Value, focusing on counting, recognising, and representing numbers in different ways. In the afternoons, we started our Geography topic: Our Local Area. We read Me on the Map and created fantastic artwork showing our planet, country, city, street, home, and ourselves. What a great start to Year 1!
In Year 2 we have had a brilliant start to the year! As a school we have explored In our Hands in our English lessons. We have created our own characters and written our own versions of the story. They are looking brilliant! In Maths, we have been working on our place value skills including recognising tens and ones and using place value charts. We have used lots of resources to help us. In Geography we have been looking at our local area and the features of that area. We even looked at Forres on google maps from 2009. In PE we have explored different poses and sequences in gymnastics. In Science we have explored different plants and whether we can eat them.
Year 3 & 4 have been focusing on settling into and the expectations of their new classroom. Children have shared summer holiday experiences, 2 birthdays already and started to create new friendships. In English they have been looking at the book 'In Our Hands'. The children have had lots of discussion about the theme of the story, asked questions about the story, written predictions and created two different illustrations relating to the book. In Maths, children have started recapping Place Value, starting with tens and ones. Children have also taken part in a gymnastics and fundamental skills PE lesson, exploring how to balance and combine a sequence of body balances and focus on using those balancing skills to hop, skip, jump and balance with a skipping rope. They have shown positive attitudes towards the start of the new term and have been very keen to get stuck into their learning. Children have chosen themselves a reading book and have read this with adults during the week. Don't forget that children have also been sent home with a copy of their TT Rock Stars login details. They have been asked to access this for a minimum of 5 minutes daily, alongside their daily reading at home. This is a great time to set new routines, so building a lovely home/school routine with daily reading, spelling practice and TT Rock Stars is a perfect way to continue their learning further. A great start to Year 3 and 4, keep it up.
Year 5 have had a fantastic start to the year. We begun by we reminding the children of the expectations for their behaviour in school. We also have started to go over the classroom routines and jobs. The whole class have taken to these new routines and jobs brilliantly. In guided reading, we have begun to read our novel The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S Lewis. We developed our reading with expression. In English ,we have had a great week exploring In our Hands by Lucy Farfort, the children have written their own introduction to the book and changed some details. In Maths, we are focusing on place value. The children have used dienes to make and draw numbers up to 10,000. In the afternoons the children started our PE learning of tennis and gymnastics. We also looked at our zones of regulation to ensure that the children understand the range of emotions that they can feel.
