Year 5 Perseverance

Friday 21st March 2025

Year 5 have been exploring and writing poetry in guided reading. In English, we used hot seating to  understand Mr Oakley from Good Night Mr Tom; the children took on the role of Mr Oakley and answered questions about the story. Using these ideas they created diary entries ensuring to include a range of literary devices. In maths, the children revised short division- this was an area that was identified as needing some more practice. We have now moved on to multiplying numbers. In Science, the children planned a fair test- they will carry this experiment out next week. In RE, we learnt about Charles Darwin and thought about how he might inspire humanists because of his ground breaking scientific theory.

In Year 5, we have been exploring the magical world of poetry. We have clarified language to help us understand each stanza. In groups the children performed a variety of poems. I was very impressed with their creative performances. In maths, we have been identifying and drawing improper fractions using cuisenaire rods.
