Meet the teacher and school expectations

Week beginning 13th October

Year 3/4 had a fabulous week of learning! In maths we started learning how to add and takeaway in 1’s, 10’s, 100’s and 1000’s. Children spent their time using physical manipulatives to secure their understanding.

In English we compared fractured fairytales and started planning our own, children had the most crazy and brilliant ideas. All classes can’t wait to write them and teachers to read them!

Science this week was all about rainbows and how they form. In Geography we used our Chromebooks to explore continent of Europe and its countries. Did you know that many of our children can recognise the world’s continents in less than 20 seconds?!

In Art we carried on with sketching and shading.

A great week for Innovation, Creativity and Imagination!

Week beginning 6th October

Year 3/4 have been creating poems based on their favourite or least favourite food, focusing on repetition and rhyme. The children have really impressed us with their imagination. In maths, we took our learning outside to physically represent rounding to the nearest 10, 100 and 1000. We have considered where a number would sit on a number line and how that relates to the nearest 1000, 100 or 10. Again, the children seem to have really grasped this concept well. In Science, we investigated reflections and how light sources help us to see. In geography, we explored Scandinavia and the countries that are within it. In Art, we practiced our shading techniques and how to create light and dark sketches.

Week beginning 15th September 2025

The children have felt very settled into their new classrooms, even after just two weeks. So well done for all the focussing and determination to make the right choices, year 3 and 4. In English we have started looking at a new book. A twist on the fairy tale ‘The Three Billy Goats Gruff’. Children have been exploring the first couple of pages of text, as well as paying close attention to the detailed images, to inspire their sentence writing. In Maths, we continue with Place Value but looking at numbers up to 1000. Children have been looking at how many hundreds make one hundred and applying this knowledge to other hundred values. They are growing in confidence at reading any number up to 1000, and further. The children have been looking at different ways in which they can partition these numbers and represent them pictorially, manipulatively and written. In PSHE we have looked at what makes a good friend and a bad friend and in RE we have looked at the importance of water in the Hindu religion. For Geography, we have recapped naming continents and oceans and placed them onto a map. During PE, we continued with our themes of gymnastics and fundamental skills, through balancing on equipment, and developing skipping skills in a variety of different ways.

Week Beginning 22nd September 2025

In Year 3 and 4, we have been focusing on using figurative language when describing the troll from 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff'. We explored the difference between metaphors and similes when comparing features of the troll. In Maths, we have been using resources to explore how we can partition numbers beyond a thousand, looking at if we can do this flexibly as well. In Geography, we have identified the Northern and Southern Hemispheres, as well as, beginning to explore the latitude lines of the world. In RE, we looked at how we represent ourselves around different people and places. In Science, we learned why ultraviolet light can be dangerous to us if we do not protect ourselves.

Flexible partitioning

Week beginning 8th September 2025

Year 3 & 4 have been focusing on settling into and the expectations of their new classroom. Children have shared summer holiday experiences, 2 birthdays already and started to create new friendships. In English they have been looking at the book 'In Our Hands'. The children have had lots of discussion about the theme of the story, asked questions about the story, written predictions and created two different illustrations relating to the book. In Maths, children have started recapping Place Value, starting with tens and ones. Children have also taken part in a gymnastics and fundamental skills PE lesson, exploring how to balance and combine a sequence of body balances and focus on using those balancing skills to hop, skip, jump and balance with a skipping rope. They have shown positive attitudes towards the start of the new term and have been very keen to get stuck into their learning. Children have chosen themselves a reading book and have read this with adults during the week. Don't forget that children have also been sent home with a copy of their TT Rock Stars login details. They have been asked to access this for a minimum of 5 minutes daily, alongside their daily reading at home. This is a great time to set new routines, so building a lovely home/school routine with daily reading, spelling practice and TT Rock Stars is a perfect way to continue their learning further. A great start to Year 3 and 4, keep it up.
