Year 2 Kindness

Welcome to Kindness Class!

Learning in Year 2

W/C 6th October

We have had a busy week in Year 2! On Monday, we attended a drama workshop with a Merlin theme. In Maths, this week we have recapped our number bonds to 10 to support the rest of our maths learning this week. We have also covered fact families and related facts. As well as, starting to learn our number bonds to 100. In English, we defeated the witch following instructions that we found in an old spell book. Then we wrote our own instructions about how to defeat a witch. In Geography, we created a route to follow to the Clock Tower in town. We then followed our route to the clock tower on Thursday. We had a great time and spotted all of our key landmarks. In RE we spoke about how being kind can be hard at times through stories from the Bible. In PSHE, we talked about the importance of a learning charter and created our own. In Art we have started to draw our own sketches of teddies thinking about tone and texture that we have covered already this year. In PE we got out the apparatus and enjoyed climbing and balancing on it.

Gigantic Poetry Workshop with Simon Mole on Thursday 2nd October

W/C 29/09/2025

In Year 2 this week we have been writing diaries as Rapunzel about being locked in the tower. We have also explored poetry and perform a poem about potions. The children have also written their own poems about creating a potion, this was brilliant. In Maths this week we have been counting in 2s, 5s, 10s and 3s. The children have worked hard at this! In PE the children explored different shapes and position. They worked together well and impressed lots of adults including Mrs Port and Miss White. During our art lesson this week we explored shading, going from light to dark.  In geography we explored the London tube map and the different routes that we can take. On Friday the children walked to the Church for a Harvest Festival, they had a wonderful time. Another brilliant week in Year 2!

This week we have continued our story of Rapunzel. The children have thought about who Rapunzel and the witch look like and the emotions they will have felt. We have looked at the feature of a diary and have planned a diary as Rapunzel. In Maths this week we have been comparing object and number. The children have enjoyed using the dienes and whiteboard pens to compare objects on the table. In Science this week we looked at what we recycle in school and we visited the recycling bins. In Art we looked at texture and created rubbings of different objects. In computing we explored how to change the size of an image. During PSHE we thought about our rights and responsibilities and rated the importance of each of them. Another great week!

The children have worked very hard this week and should be very proud of themselves. In English, this week we have started a new book a witty twist on a favourite fairy tale Rapunzel by Bethan Woollvin. We have explored our previous experiences of fairy tales and Rapunzel. The children have also responded to illustrations in the text and predicted what they thought might happen. In Maths this week the children have been working on partitioning numbers to 100 and counting in 1s and 10s on number lines to 100. The children have been applying their knowledge of number to fill in the gaps on the number line. During our Geography lesson this week the children recalled their journeys to school and created their own maps. They were amazing! Within our Science lesson the children explored how to keep our environment healthy. They came up with lots of great ideas. In our PSHE lessons we spoke about worries and who we can go to for help. Another great week in Year 2! Keep up the hard work.

They are looking brilliant! In Maths, we have been working on our place value skills including recognising tens and ones and using place value charts. We have used lots of resources to help us. In Geography we have been looking at our local area and the features of that area. We even looked at Forres on google maps from 2009. In PE we have explored different poses and sequences in gymnastics. In Science we have explored different plants and whether we can eat them.
