Reading for Pleasure at Forres Primary Academy
At our school, we aim to foster a lifelong love of reading by creating a reading-rich environment where books are celebrated and enjoyed every day. Reading for pleasure is a vital part of a child's educational and personal development. When children choose to read for enjoyment, they not only improve their literacy skills but also expand their imagination, vocabulary, and understanding of the world around them.
At Forres, we have recently refurbished our school library to ensure pupils have a place to go and enjoy choosing a book. They are ordered into catergories fostered from our English scheme, CLPE. We also use Accelerated Reader once pupils have finished phonics, to ensure all pupils have a levelled reading book, as well as, a reading for pleasure book.
Terry the Turtle!
Our school mascot is Terry the Turtle. To promote a love of reading at home, each class has their very own Terry mascot that can be taken home by one pupil every weekend. Along with Terry comes a picture book and a hot chocolate sachet to encourage family reading time whilst, you're getting cosy!
Summer Reading Challenge at the Library.
During July, all pupils visited Hoddesdon Library for the second year running for the launch of the Summer's Reading Challenge.
The Summer Reading Challenge encourages children to keep reading during the school summer holidays and to enjoy reading anything they like! Children are invited to read 6 library books (or eBooks/eAudio from BorrowBox) and collect rewards for their reading.
