PSHE at Forres Primary Academy 

At Forres Primary Academy, we believe that children learn best when they feel happy, safe, valued and understood. Through our PSHE curriculum, delivered using the Jigsaw programme, we help pupils develop the confidence, resilience and social skills they need to navigate both school life and the wider world. Lessons provide opportunities for children to explore their feelings, celebrate differences, build positive relationships and learn how to keep themselves healthy and safe. Jigsaw's child-centred approach encourages open discussion, reflection and emotional wellbeing, helping every child to feel included and supported. By working together with families, we aim to nurture caring, confident and respectful young people who are well prepared for the opportunities and challenges of the future.

What do schools have to teach in PSHE Education?

The National Curriculum states, every school needs to have a broad and balanced curriculum that:

• promotes the spiritual, moral, social, cultural, mental and physical development of pupils at the school;
• prepares pupils at the school for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of later life;
• promotes British values.

Primary schools in England also need to teach Relationships and Health Education as compulsory subjects and the Department for Education strongly recommends that they should also include age-appropriate Sex Education. Schools also have statutory responsibilities to safeguard their pupils (Keeping Children Safe in Education, DfE, 2019) and to uphold the Equality Act (2010).

At Forres Primary Academy we use the Jigsaw Programme to deliver all of these requirements.
