Physical Education at Forres Primary Academy
Our Vision
PE is a unique subject which allows your child to shine and succeed in many different ways. We believe that physical education should be enjoyed by every child in a safe and supportive environment. Developing confidence, teamwork and resilience, PE gives all children the opportunity to experience a variety of physical activity. In and out of lessons, we make time for children to develop their skills, enjoy exercise and achieve.
Eary Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)
The EYFS curriculum introduces children to the fundamental principles of physical education. The primary focus is on developing basic movement skills, coordination, and balance. Children engage in various activities encompassing running, jumping, throwing, and catching. As children progress through the year, they use these taught fundamental skills to transition into more structured lessons covering dance, gymnastics, and games.
Our EYFS provision aligns with the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS)Statutory Framework, supporting physical development as a core prime area of learning.
Physical Education at Forres
Sport-led activities are at the centre of PE at Forres, building towards intra-competitions in school and Hertfordshire district tournaments and leagues. Children are taught the skills sets needed to independently take part in lessons. As children progress through the school they build upon their skills allowing them to apply them in game situations. Throughout every year, children will work as a team as well as develop individual skills, which will stay with them all their life!
How we deliever the curriculum
A bespoke progression of skills create building blocks to support the development of key attributes (acquiring and developing) which can be applied to key stages and year groups. This is both sport specific and skill based allowing children to apply what they have learnt in a range of activities and settings. Through KS2 learning, ‘team games’ are more evident with children focusing more on selecting and applying their skills, as well as the tactical aspects of team games. The PE lead supports the delivery of the curriculum through the program Get Set 4 PE.
As part of our commitment to a well-rounded physical education, pupils in Year 2, Year 5, and Year 6 attend swimming lessons at a local leisure centre. This consistent, structured provision directly contributes to a high percentage of our pupils leaving primary school as confident and competent swimmers. Our curriculum aligns with the National Curriculum in England: PE Programmes of Study, including the core requirements outlined in the Key Stages 1 and 2 PE Framework.
